HDV and FCP-Mandatory reading
Ned over at the LA Final Cut Pro User Group has posted a nice synopsis of the options available for working with HDV. I think I've probably mentioned everything he suggests, but he wraps it up all in one place. Plus, he posts links to everything, which I am obviously lame about.
Comments:
There is one simple option that I feel is missing from Ned's excellent synopsis.
It is the HDV to DV out on my HVR-Z1.
I am simply using it as long as Apple has not yet released FCP 5.
Shooting in 1080i/50 (I am living in Europe on PAL territory) I have the camera set to
output the footage directly as DV-PAL (Anamorphic).
The excellent quality of the picture is retained to a very - in fact pleasantly - high
degree.
As long I do not produce for broadcast or blue-ray HD DVD's but for DVD's that are to
be played on lap-tops and for internet video, this is an acceptable solution.
Importing some HDV footage recently in iMovieHD resulted in very "flickery" pictures.
Instead of all sorts of time-consuming experiments, I went for a simple but higly effective,
be it (hopefully) temporary solution.
