OT but interesting - Macworld UK - Be begins 24Mb London broadband trial

Macworld UK - Be begins 24Mb London broadband trial

A UK firm is doing trial runs with new subscribers for a 24 megabit/second (that's 3 megabytes per second, just barely shy of a realtime HDV stream) down, but only 1 Mb/sec upstream (so 0.125 MB/sec uploading) broadband system based on ADSL2+.

And just 20 pounds a month.

Still, promising for the future of digital movie downloads and other broadband applications.

Comments:
in germany trials have been runnig for quite some time now running @ 25mbit ADSL+... it's rumored that premiere payTV will stream SDTV and HDTV in the future over the internet, but on a closed system that will only work with hdcp TV's...

Sweden has had 24Mbps DSL for quite some time already (as usual, I believe :O), long time since that was a trial.

"Bredbandsbolaget" offers it for 329SEK (24 pounds/44 us dollars) per month.

In France, we have ADSL2 already, with a bandwidth of 20 mbps. It works perfectly. It al comes from a wonderful little black box, and includes streaming television on your tv set (about 100 channels for free), and telephone services (free nationwide calls). You can all services at the same time. An that for only 29 euros per month (approx. 36 dollars). The bandwidth will be upgraded to 100mbps before the end of next year !
