Panasonic HVX-200 clarification & video - YES it does have component, and YES ships this year

UPDATE: YEAH, the promo video was shot with the Varicam, because it was shot months before the cameras were ready to play with.

Learn about Panasonic's AG-HVX200 - 1/3" 3-CCD 16:9 HD/DVCPRO/DV Cinema P2 Camera with CineSwitchTM Technology, CineGammaTM Software and IEEE 1394 Interface

Here's the official Panasonic page on the camera - so perhaps all of this "there's no component!" is merely carping because of

a.) they don't have it working yet, or more likely,

b.) they just didn't have that cable adaptor plugged in at the time on the show floor

But according to the Panasonic website, they should be shipping the NTSC version in time for Christmas, and the PAL version in Q1 of next year. But the NTSC version will shoot 1080 res 24p, and that's what we want/need/crave.

There is also a downloadable promotional video presumably shot on one of these cameras. The website says "shot with DVCPRO HD" which the camera will do, and the footage looks good but not amazing, so I'd believe it. There's just a little voice in my head that thinks "the more expensive Varicam shoots DVCPRO HD, and they didn't specifically say the spot was shot with an HVX-200." They probably did shoot with an HVX-200, I'm just paranoid after working in marketing and advertising.

hey mike,

just for clarification; that little HVX promo video was shot on the VariCam

Harlan - I'm not denying you're right, but how do you know?

it's just too funny, here we look at a tiny tiny qt clip compressed for web distro and we wonder which cam it was shot on (yeah, i did too ;)

could have just as well been shot with DVX if you ask me, if not for the slomo stuff... and the depth of field looks like the camera had a slightly larger chip (is the varicam chip bigger than the HVX? i guess so)

Harlan's correct. Jan Crittenden (product manager) stated that it was a varicam on the cinematography.com forum. The guy who shot it also stated varicam in another post on that forum. Jan's exact quote:
----snip----
Because we produced it several months ago, it was done with the VariCam.

Best,

Jan
