Dell 30" LCD available - $2199
Dell 30" UltraSharp Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor
Dell's 30" LCD panel is now available to be ordered online, with 2560x1600 pixel resolution, requiring a dual link DVI connector (check your graphics card for support, this is pretty new/expensive/uncommon until quite recently).
Other details:
-25 pounds
-DVI-D dual link
-Energy Star Compliant
-claimed 400 cd/m2 typical brightness
-700:1 claimed contrasat ratio
-95 degree max operating temp (don't use outdoors in Texas summer)
-177 W max power draw
-4 USB 2.0 ports
-NO VIDEO INPUTS either SD or HD, just computer attachments, so can't use this as a TV monitor as you can with the 24" model that I have from Dell
Thanks to Dave Peterson for pointing this out to me! If you see a relevant bit of news that I'm not on top of, please drop me an email at mike@hdforindies.com

UPDATE - this is only $300 less than Apple, so not such a great deal considering Apple's better looking unit. I'll need to look at brightness/contrast and see if the Dell is better to consider whether to recomend or not. If they are otherwise identical, I'd STRONGLY recommend AGAINST the Dell, unless it drops below $2000.

Comments:
Odd. The monitor was on Dell's site this morning, but the web page had a different layout and it definitely showed component and s-video listed as video inputs. That would be a serious bummer if it doesn't have those b/c it would be a great monitor for showing work sent out from decklink. I bet it has those inputs.
Well I was wrong. I saw the close up images of the under panel and it doesn't seem to have any video inputs. That's butt. And I ain't getting it then.
Mike, I think you mean you'd strongly recommend AGAINST the Dell unless it drops below $2000 - or were you meaning unless the Apple one drops below 2000?
aparently the specs are much better than apples:

and dont forget dell almost always has a promotion / web coupon type thing going on - usually good for 10% or more - and free shipping
And where does one find the coupon code? I'm ready to get the 24" if I can get 10%ish off.
I can't BELIEVE the 30" doesn't have all the inputs of the 24". WTF are they thinking? Are they worried about competing with their own HD TV line (the ones that go in living rooms and have tuners).

Also remember that if there isn't a running promo, you can alway call Dell sales and ask the rep for a discount. They get commissions based on markup and there is plenty wiggle room with the highe end gear. I bet you can find a rep to lower below 2 grand, though maybe not until a few weeks after the launch.
