Quickie other IBC News - Apple and BlackMagic Design

This is far from complete, just what I've stumbled across since their booths are close to Red's:

Apple - I guessed it right, there IS a new version of Final Cut Pro! It is 5.1.2, but doesn't ship for about a month. They fixed all my ingest gripes from the Texas HD Shootout:
-improved native P2 import - can batch, can preview before import, can set ins and outs on each shot, is faster, is all around waaaaaaay better.
-XDCAM HD: native support for ALL frame rates and resolutions now, including 18 and 35mbit
-JVC 24p support - can ingest JVC's 24p from the GY-HD1xx series of cameras
-Canon 24F support - can ingest natively Canon's 24F format from the XL H1 and presumably from the two other models recently introduced.
-and if they could remove 3:2 pulldown perfectly from Sony's HDV camcorders in Cineframe, it'd be pretty damned complete!

Blackmagic has two new capture cards, one of which is $250 and does HDMI in and out, which sounds just insanely cheap. I'll go have a chat with Grant Petty and get the full scoop.

AJA is just down the way but I haven't laid eyeballs on any signage indicating new product, but I'll definitely be checking in with Jon Thorn.

I'm sure there's more out there, I just haven't seen it yet. Heard about some killer product of interest to the HD4NDs community? Comment below and let me know the company name (and better yet their booth # too) so I can check it out and report back when I get a chance.

PS-site was down after I went to bed - there was a problem after I hit "Post" and closed the laptop thinking it was going to work as I went to bed at 2:30am Amsterdam time, and I didn't know about it till I got up this morning. Sorry about that - I'll babysit it more as the week goes on...but now I see I'm having trouble publishing with Blogger, and there's NOTHING on the site...ugh...I'm working on it...stand by...ugh...
Comments:
Thanks for the updates mike. Things are looking real good.

Any more info on those new Sony camcorders (expecially the HV1E). What sensor size? Do they have a prototype so you can see performance?

Hello there,

if you're going to check out the Iridas Booth (which I'm sure you will, booth 7.510, with Ciprico) you shouldn't look for 'SpeedGrade' only but for 'Sequence Publisher' also.
This tool allows for DPX etc. to QT etc. conversion including various burn-in information.
And even if they're a bit shy about Mac support info it seems, it's available for OS X (I got an release candidate version few days ago for eval).

Plus:
My 2 cents for restaurant locations in Amsterdam.

1st
Café Luxembourg, Spui 24
Great food, nice atmosphere and a great view over the Spui place.

2nd
Café De Jaren, Nieuwe Doelenstraat 20-22
Awesome food, 2-story bar and a terrace with a view over the Amstel river

Best regards, Oliver

The HV1E has 3x1/4" chips AFAIK which you probably already know Anonymous but looking for confirmation from the Sony booth?

Mike,

Is there a new version of Final Touch HD at IBC? I am trying to figure out what real-time color correction software to buy. I am sort of interested in Speedgrade but the pricing is significantly different.

this intensity card sounds great...for someone who doesnt capture like me, just needs a shake monitor output...this sounds great.

does it support HDMI 1.3? (aka Deep Color or whatever its called)

Cheers

James,

How much is Ciprico's 4440 and how the hell does it work? Can you buy one pod and add on later?

Red booth was busy today, didn't have a chance to peel off and see other things. Red is my primary obligation, anything else is gravy, folks. Otherwise would be unfair and irresponsible to the folks who flew me over here.

But I'll check out what I can when I can, but it'll have to be quick.

Hey Mike, great to hear about the FCP updates. I posted this a while back, but I'd love to hear news on the workflow front from the Tiger guys (MetaSAN - hopefully x86 news) and SquareBox (CatDV) or other asset-management updates.

new sony HDV camcorders?!?! where can i find more information about these?!

I hope Apple has fixed the .bwf sound file import problem we've had since the beginning. If this version supports timecode import, metadata and pulldown (as Avid does) I think it will make FCP much more usable for projects other than HD.
