Most HDTVs fail basic competency tests. Eww.

HDBlog.net Blog Archive Home Theater Mag Tests HDTV%u2019s - Very Interesting

More than half of the sets tested from big name manufacturers failed tests for proper deinterlacing of 1080i signals, proper 3:2 cadence detection, and sufficient bandwidth for 1080p.

Over half failed deinterlacing test.

80% of the over 60 sets tested failed 3:2 cadence detection test.

Read on.
Comments:
Gievn the general obsession with 24p within the Indie crowd, the utter failure of nearly all the sets to handle 3:2 detection would seem to suggest that's a flawed strategy for getting a good result on consumer's screen.

I am guessing that the deinterlacing is not an issue on my tube CRT Sony HDTV? I didn't see any Sony tube HDTVs in the list.

maybe i should RTFA, but "sufficient bandwidth for 1080p"? isn't 1080p actually less data than 1080i? (1080i60 ~= 1080p30)
