The HVX500 is an amazing announcement.
Video guys should be cheering because it will force
Sony to lower their pricing.
The sad part of all this is to prove that market forces like the beloved RED do make a big difference.

I can't believe it's going to take until May (or so they now say) to get to 16GB, and end of your for 32GB. What the heck??? Maybe drop prices on the current P2 cards, or SOMETHING as a stopgap? The whole format is based on P2 replacing tape (or coming close, from a workflow perspective) and it's JUST NOT THERE w/ 8GB cards.

While I'm on a Panny rant, please ship the 1400As we have on order soonish, like, next month maybe if we are really nice? We've only had the orders in for a month or so (last one we ordered took many months to come).

However, all in all, you have gotta like what Panny is doing, and the risky steps they are making with the P2 format and recent cameras (ideal workflow if it all pans out, and very priced-to-sell cameras, between the HVX200 and now this). DVCPROHD is pretty nice, obviously with FCP the acquisition format _is_ the post format, at least in a large number of scenarios.

Come on Panny -- please realize the dream!

I just don't like the fact that Panasonic is claiming 1080 HD. It's fake because the chips have much lower native resolution and they pixel shift vertically and horizontally. IOW, those who have seen it say it looks 'soft' compared to true 1080 cameras like XDCAM HD.

But you have to admit, the pricing is aggressive.

So what will this do to the price of the SDX900?
