Final Cut Studio 2 SmoothCam Roundup at FreshDV
Final Cut Studio 2 SmoothCam Roundup at FreshDV
A new feature in FCS 2 is called SmoothCam, Matthew Jeppsen over at FreshDV.com has a nice roundup on it all. One comment - one of the tests is using it as a tracking stabilizer, it can do so much more than that.

Comments:
Mike, Am I right in thinking that if I do the SmoothCam analysis with lo-res media, I will not have to do another analysis when I redigitise to high res, so long as I re-digitise all the media. Would this be a time saver
Thanks
Bob
Thanks
Bob
Bob, as Smoothcam is a filter, I don't think that's going to work. I imagine that the analysis would have to be re-rendered/analyzed.

Matt, But if I use the 3 way color corrector on lo-res, it is the same for hi-res: Isn't the 3-way color corrector a filter
Bob
Bob
Bob, yes 3 way color corrector is a filter. And it does apply the same way if a clip that it's put on is redigitized. But, it's also recalculating the color.
So the same goes for the smoothcam filter. And I wouldn't apply the smoothcam to lowres footage in the first place. It might have a different solution on hires footage, because there's more data available to track on.
