OT: how to make iPhone ringtones in GarageBand
UPDATED WEDNESDAY: see video at bottom, just so that I'm not the only one with that stuck in my head. Bonus round to whomever takes the time to make that a ringtone using the below methodology and emailing it to me - you'll get, umm, something cool for your trouble.
: )
How To: Create Custom iPhone Ringtones the Free and Apple Way
Won't work with your purchased music, but will from all your MP3s of ripped CDs.
Fun and FREE - I find it HIGHLY vexing that Apple/AT&T want you to pay to make a ringtone out of music you already own...
MORE IPHONE FUN:
Plus this handy other iPhone tip from The Editblog OT: A nice iPhone discovery
"double click the home button from sleep mode and you will get an iPod controller at the top of the screen. It’s a controller complete with play/pause button, skip track buttons that can be held down for fast forward and rewind, a volume slider and the track title."
Schweet find, Scott!

BONUS: Most brainsticky song of late:
Hit me if you want me baby
I'll be on my iPhone...

Comments:
iToner is another great app. It allows you take any audio file, including your entire music library and have it work as a ring tone on your iphone.
Ring tones. You do know why some of us will never own a Mac. It's the whole culture and it is frankly creepy and kinda dumb.
Look we are techies see how cool we are.
You know some of us actually know almost exactly how lame you really are. There is a reason for the 'it just works' slogan.

Because they're not very good for games, and thats the primary, or possibly sole use you have for computers?
Apart from trolling...
Just a guess.

If you want a *nix there are several available. The FreeBSD done dumb you people call OS X is a hack.
What upsets me apart from the vapidness of ring tone enthusiasm is that you had to wait for some real geek to make it possible for you to make them. Far beyond lame.
Hacking up an mp3 for your phone is simple command line stuff. Why you'd even need an app is beyond me.
