My pre-game analysis of iPad

ProVideo Coalition.com: HD For Indies by Mike Curtis | Founder

Wrote this one last night before the stuff today - and I gotta say, most of it holds up as written. Problems with any tablet, and specifically with some of the rumored plays Apple had in mind.

Holds up pretty well, covers some things not addressed in the post-announcement article.

Read the linked article over at PVC.

FAIL !!!

It had to happen sooner or later.

Cruised most of the fanboi areas and they pretty well uniformly hate it.

Low powered low feature crappy netbook basically.

PenGun, welcome back! Long time no hear.

Hi Mike.
How goes it these days?

Ya know they'll prolly sell lots of iPads The geeks seem offended by it but there is a lot of 'citizen' interest and if it's easy enough to use it could kill. A big if is how many people have the $s these days. It might kill off netbooks to some extent but they need more market than that.

The Nexus One is about as powerful, both the Dragonfly and the A4 are ARM licensed pieces. A big faster one with Android would float my boat

I really don't get this new iPad. It's a giant iTouch... it lacks a lot of important features like a cam for video conference or multitasking.

Apple, if you want to replace the netbooks market, the iPad is not the solution.

My two cents.

Probably the best comment I've seen is that the iPad is not a netbook or laptop and wasn't intended to be either. It's to compete against the Kindle and think about how many Kindles have sold and think about how many more features the iPad offers. Yeah, it has ridiculously fewer features than a laptop or netbook, so don't consider it for that purpose. This is for people who want to read, watch movies, read and send email with attachments, create attachments and surf the net from one device that doesn't have a mechanical drive that can fail, doesn't have a hing that will wear out (I'm looking at the ribbon cables that go from MB to display) and is slim enough to fit in a briefcase and leave room for other things. If I had money, I wouldn't buy an iPad, I'd buy Apple stock.

I don't know. The Kindle is a much better e-book and cheaper too.

I think they are after netbooks. It's the only thing they compete with really.

"read, watch movies, read and send email with attachments, create attachments and surf the net from one device"

Exactly, a netbook.

I dunno it could soar or crash ... we shall see.

I thought Kindles sold for a little less than $500 for the 9.7" size?

Not meaning to dis or anything, but if someone wants a netbook, they should buy a netbook, not an iPad or a Kindle. Just saying that one has more features than the other.

As you say, it will be interesting to watch. There was a lot of negative reaction to the iPhone and I didn't buy the first gen iPhone.
